And it doesn’t have to be OVAs…. it can just be short seasons (like the last 2 ippo ones).

So it doesn’t have to rely on the source material to end properly. As for how Hunter x Hunter might go down, if that does happen, I hope the fans have as much patience for new OAVs as they have for the manga. Though I can’t imagine them being happy being cut off again, when they were probably hoping that Togashi was heading to at least the series’ climax, and not just using the anime as an excuse to boost interest in the manga, while it’s still on hiatus. Anyway, the original films probably came about, because the reboot was Madhouse’s first hit anything in a long time in Japan.
